A-Melting Pot is a project launched to create a sound network of Asia’s experimental, impromptu, and independent music. Beginning in September 2017, A-Melting Pot has invited musicians and managers based in China, Taiwan, and Indonesia in pursuit of placing Korean experimental/impromptu/independent music inside the Asian music scene and to find a point of intersection. Each musicianor manager invited to the project has been a key player who carries out multiple roles as a musician, planner, tour manager, researcher, operator, collector, and a contributor, and together with experimental musician Choi Yong-joon, selected artists (Yan Jun from China, Dawang Yingfan Huang from Taiwan, TO DIE from Indonesia) have each presented an exhibition, a performance, a screening, and a talk program,creating a comprehensive compilation of individual historiesand preferences as a way to compare and contrast each country’s experimental/impromptu/independent music environment and history.
In 2018, A-Melting Pot highlights three types of creators that have newly emerged as points of cultural intersection in an age represented by dissolution of boundaries: The first type of creators continuously expand their territories in one location; the second type reposition themselves within the local scene, pursuing their curiosities; and the third type continuously shift territories both geographically and in terms of artistic genre. This year, A-Melting Pot presents the audience with an opportunity to reimagine Asian music and its multifaceted terrain to exchange beyond geographical limitations,introducing creators pioneering a new music scene by pushing their limits inside and beyond the geographical and spiritual territory of Asia.
With a total of three shows held every Saturday for three weeks from November 24 to December 8, the audience of the 2018 A-Melting Pot will be able to get a sense of the complex cultural meld in contemporary Asian music and experience new forms of musical imaginations by simply purchasing a ticket and enjoying the show.

Organic Beer and ODAERI, artists exploring their own unique musical identities in Korea, are invited to perform.
A-Melting Pot #2
Saturday, December 1, 8 p.m.
Musicians, collectors, researchers, and other special guestsfrom Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, and Korea introduce their own definition of Asian music through their private record collections.
A-Melting Pot #3
Saturday, December 8, 8 p.m.
Korean traditional instrument players and composers Park Kyungso and Park Jiha present the most experimental form ofcontemporary beauty through sounds rooted in Korean traditional music, which has only been perceived as a subject of preservation.
